Create a Ritual Space for Tarot
Reading Tarot as a personal practice means that you need to create a place for it. Yes, even if you don’t know “how” to read the cards yet!
This will be a place you can look forward to being in on a regular basis. It can be any place, but you’ll want to get specific and designate a specific area.
The Place
It can be as elaborate as an altar space on a special table with a chair where you keep your special crystals, statues, candles, and even ancestral photos.
Or it can really be as simple as a spot on a side table with your cards, with a little plant or crystal next to them and a few Tarot books stacked behind them.
If space is limited, you can create a portable spot. Try a decorative box tucked inside a drawer next to your bed, or even in your bathroom displayed on a shelf. I’ve actually even used a bag hanging on the door with my supplies, that I can take anywhere.
From there, you can take out the box or bag and use it right there or go somewhere else. Especially if you have small children, the bedroom, bathroom, or a nearby park may be your only personal retreat space!
It doesn’t matter where it is as long as it’s a place where you can go regularly and where you feel comfortable.
The Time
Once you have your physical space, designate a time to spend there. It can be a daily time, a weekly time or whatever feels right to you. I like to at least do a weekly reading. Once you’ve decided, add your preferred time to your calendar.
Personalize it
Now you’ll want to make it your personal Tarot space. Find a deck (or more) of cards that you like, and ideally at least one book about Tarot, in case you have questions. Keep it simple. Technically, that’s all you need, but it’s always nice to collect a few treasures in your Tarot reading area too.
My simple Tarot space is on a table in my office, where I’ve collected a few decorative meaningful things: a geode my dad gave to me, a few crystals, a candle, and a plant. All my Tarot books are nearby on a bookshelf.
The Time is Now
It’s that simple: choose your place, time, cards and treasures. Create something today to start. You can always evolve it or add to it. Let me know what you discover about what works for you. Happy reading!
